Month 5 Rose Springs into Action

Rose just turned 5 months! To celebrate we have bought her a house. Well not really, but we are purchasing a new home in Charlotte and we should be all moved in by the end of June, exciting! It is a wonderful 4 bedroom with a huge backyard, so plenty of room for parties, visitors and more babies! I am getting ahead of myself here I think =)
Back to the baby at hand, Rose. She had a BIG month, proving that she is an advanced child. We took her into the doctor today for a well baby exam and she comes in at the 75th percentile for height and weight, last month she was in the 87th percentile. To make up for not being a humongous baby, Rose decided that in her 5th month of life she would start to crawl, backwards =)
Imagine our surprise when we set Rose down for her tummy time, looked away for two seconds and when our eyes glanced back at her she was 4 feet from where we set her! Not to brag too much here but most babies tend to crawl between 7-10 month, so we are super impressed with our little angel. Our doc was also pretty impressed with Rose as well.
In addition to becoming an independent mover, this month Rose also began eating food. She started with an avocado, moved from there to banana and has since tried applesauce, carrot,s a blueberry-spinach concoction and baby whole grain cereal. We made a huge batch of baby food that we are hoping will last us through the move and while settling into our new home.
In the midst of backwards crawling and eating purees, we made a switch to cloth diapering after much research and debate. We have many friends that are doing it and we decided for numerous reasons, including reducing the amount of waste we send to the landfill, Rose's health and saving money. There are some super cute cloth diapers out there and it is surprisingly an easier transition than we had envisioned. Rose seems to like her new diapers too =)
As is we haven't been busy enough in the midst of it all we took a trip to California to introduce Rose to her family and to celebrate her Grandpa Joe's life at the annual Joe party hosted by Keith and Bryce in Simi Valley. As usual we had a great time and Rose was the belle of the ball. She was on her best behavior the whole trip and was surprisingly chill on the airplane rides, especially considering we were flying coast to coast. It went so well in fact that we are thinking of perhaps going back out for the Ullrich end of Summer party in August, I guess that decision has more to do with how we are getting settled into our new home. May was a wonderful month and Rose is blooming into an amazing child. We are very excited about her first summer and hope that it is full of bike rides, the beach, family, museums and swimming pools!
